About the job

About Kora Kora is building the future of home energy and grid management.

Our Smart Panel, Powerblocks, Power App, and Energy Trading platform give homeowners control over every watt — from solar to batteries to grid. We're on a mission to end blackouts, slash energy bills, and empower every home to profit from clean energy.

Kora is led by a team of veteran entrepreneurs and engineers including serial entrepreneur Greg Connolly who has raised >$45M and did >$500M at his previous company Trifecta.

The Mission Kora Power is on a mission to transform how homes interact with electricity. We aren't just making another gadget; we are building a fully integrated residential energy platform, including smart electrical panels, modular batteries, and hybrid inverters, to give homeowners unprecedented control over their energy.

We are looking for a world-class Electrical Engineer who lives at the intersection of circuit design, power distribution, and intelligent energy control. This isn't just a design job; it's an opportunity to be at the heart of hardware innovation for the clean energy transition.

Why This Role?

  • Ownership: You'll own the electrical architecture of our smart panel — from schematic to certified product — working hand-in-hand with our mechanical, firmware, and software teams.
  • Innovation: You'll design next-generation smart panels and home energy tech that doesn't exist yet.
  • High Impact: Your designs directly determine the safety, reliability, and performance of the mission-critical hardware in every Kora home.

What You'll Do (The Impact)

  • Design Smart Panel Architecture: Develop electrical designs, schematics, and documentation for panel systems — branch-circuit management, protection elements, sensors, switching devices, and communication interfaces.
  • Integrate the Platform: Collaborate with power electronics, firmware, and software teams to ensure seamless functionality across the smart panel, inverter, and energy storage subsystems.
  • Prototype & Validate: Support hardware builds, bench testing, fault injection, and iterative design improvements that lock in performance, safety, and reliability.
  • Troubleshoot at the System Level: Diagnose issues across panel circuits, switching elements, sensing hardware, and communication pathways — then implement the fix.
  • Own Compliance: Apply NEC, UL, and IEEE standards to your designs and work directly with certification bodies.
  • Optimize Performance & Safety: Use measurement tools and simulation to evaluate system behavior, reliability, and load-control effectiveness, and drive enhancements.
  • Define the Spec: Set electrical requirements, component selection criteria, and performance targets for smart panel subsystems.

What We're Looking For:

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's in Electrical Engineering or a related field, with strong grounding in circuit theory, power systems, and electronics.
  • Technical Mastery: 3+ years in electrical design, power distribution, power electronics, or related fields. Residential electrical systems, DER integration, or smart panel experience is a strong plus.
  • Tool Fluency: Proficiency designing and analyzing AC/DC circuits, protection schemes, and switching architectures using Altium, OrCAD, SPICE, or MATLAB/Simulink.
  • Connected Hardware: Familiarity with communication interfaces (CAN, RS-485, Modbus) and embedded hardware integration.
  • Standards Savvy: Working familiarity with NEC, UL 67/98/1741, IEEE standards, and general electrical safety practices.
  • Detail-Oriented & Safety-First: Strong documentation habits and a deep commitment to safety, quality, and compliance.

Compensation: Pay based on experience, technical ability, and impact. This position is classified as exempt under applicable wage-and-hour laws. Equity opportunities may be available as part of total compensation.

The Rewards:

  • Competitive Pay: Base pay is tailored to your experience, location, and certifications.
  • Ownership Stakes: This role includes a stock option grant for equity in the company.
  • Health Benefits: This role includes Health, Vision and Dental
  • The Future: Be a part of Kora's broader vision to accelerate the transition to cleaner energy.

Location This is an on-site position at least 3 days per week based at our Sacramento, CA office. You will need to work with our team of engineers and product folks to test systems on site, work on mock installs, product development, etc. on physical hardware at our R&D offices.
